Overview

My Notes is a UI app design project.

Objective

The goal for this project was to design the user interface of a note-taking app. The scenario was an urgent request from a client in need of a quick concept to show to investors.

Idea

The idea was to work with “less is more” in mind in order to deliver the concept quickly while ensuring a clean and simple-to-use design.

Challenge

The main challenge was creating a user interface design with no guidelines and without any user experience design work on this project beforehand.

Approach

Given the nature of the project, I started by taking some inspiration from other designs on Dribbble and Apple Notes. Following that, I immediately moved on to creating an essential style guide and the user interface design to present My Notes easily and quickly.

Learnings

At the time I worked on this project, I had also started the design of another project, Money Goals. Going through the exercise of temporarily putting a project aside, to quickly focus on a sudden urgent request, taught me how to adapt and prioritise different design tasks.

PROCESS & TOOLS

STEP 1. STYLE GUIDE

UI Design

My Notes’ style guide shows the app's clean and easy look and feel.
It includes the following design elements:
- Logo
- Colours
- Typography
- Icons
- Buttons
- Illustrations

STEP 2. USER INTERFACE DESIGN & MOCKUPS

UI Design

For the design of My Notes’ user interface, I took inspiration from designs I found on Dribbble and, more specifically, by looking at the functionality of Apple Notes. Applying the style guide to a simple and easy layout, I designed 6 screens that show the essential functions of the app.
